An isolator provides a means of disconnecting electrical equipment or sections of an installation from the power supply, allowing circuits to be safely isolated for maintenance, servicing or emergency shutdown. Unlike automatic circuit protection devices, isolators are primarily intended for manual disconnection rather than overload or short-circuit protection.

When selecting an isolator, check the required number of poles, current rating, voltage, mounting type and application to ensure compatibility with the electrical installation. Installation should be completed by a suitably qualified electrician.
